Job Responsibilities:
Product safety and environmental and environmental compliance engineer to assist the design and accessory teams by providing the product safety and EMC and environmental compliance guideline during the product design phase, obtaining the UL, TuV, EMC and international certifications, and conducting tests to confirm a specific design or use of new material. Complete all necessary regulatory filing and in-country environmental registration required by EU Environmental directive. He or she will work closely first within the Compliance team to specify the product-specific requirement, work with the design teams to ensure product safety, EMC and environmental compliance requirements are met, complete pre-testing of the HW platforms, review vendor's data or spec sheets to ensure component level safety, EMC and environmental compliance. Attend UL and EMC seminars for technology that is of most interest to the HW design and accessory teams, obtain and review UL or EMC certification reports, work within Compliance team or with HW team to perform critical product safety, EMC and environmental-related failure analysis of a key component. This key individual will support the teams through product execution, design phases, and ultimately achieving full compliance on the devices and on the accessories.
This individual will work significantly within a team-based environment and provide timely contribution to the team through data/information search and by working with internal and 3rd party test labs. This individual will attend UL or EMC or other safety and environmental-related seminars, and other environmental compliance seminar to keep the design teams abreast of the latest requirements and update the Compliance chart. This individual is expected to have an end-to-end ownership from product safety, EMC and environmental certification perspective on a new device or accessory.
Work with the project teams as the product safety and environmental compliance lead.
Provide product safety and environmental requirements to PM, EPM on a new device.
Provide input/guidance to Sustaining team on product safety and environmental issues.
Perform review of vendor's specs relative to product safety, EMC and environmental compliance.
Work with the engineering team to root cause and provide recommendation on issues related to product safety, MC and environmental compliance.
Provide timely assistance and liaison to core and accessory team to arrange mission-critical tests to be performed, and provide data so that project sign-off can be done on time.
Review UL, EMC and other safety and environmental data to ensure all necessary tests are performed.
Update EU environmental compliance master chart and hold conference calls to close EU in-country registration issues
Interface with Legal team to provide input on issues related to product safety and environmental.
Attend UL or other product safety and environmental meetings and provide feedback and update the requirements based on the new or emerging requirements affecting the product design
Be a document control review and sign-off point person for Compliance team.
Work directly with the vendors on device testing and approval.
Review product label artworks and documentation prior to release.
Perform on-line review and give compliance sign-off on documentation database.
Perform regression tests at the local test lab to validate EE, Firmware or mechanical design changes.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with technical focus.
3+ years of product safety, EMC and environmental engineer experiences on electronic devices.
Experience with UL and EMC hands-on testing.
Experienced in high volume manufacture environments.
5+ years or more of extensive work experience with Asia-based CM, ODM, or OEM
Hands-on debug, fault-finding or analysis skills.
Strong with MS Office applications including Excel

Strong cross-functional communication skills
Willing to travel internationally, on-demand
