The Opportunity
Department: Marketing & Growth
Reports To: Head of Marketing (or CEO until role filled)
Location: Remote (US preferred, global considered)
Employment Type: Part-Time to Full-Time
The Community Manager will build and nurture engaged user communities across UMGās portfolio of Muslim-focused digital products. This is a hands-on role responsible for creating content, driving user engagement, and turning passive users into active community advocates.
This role reports to the Head of Marketing (or CEO until that role is filled) with autonomy to build community strategy from the ground up.
Key Challenge: Activate existing user bases across multiple products while launching community infrastructure for new platforms, creating sustainable engagement and growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Responsibilities (70% of time):
1. Community Building & Engagement
- Build and manage engaged communities across UMGās product portfolio
- Create discussion forums, social groups, and engagement campaigns
- Moderate community spaces and enforce community guidelines
- Identify and cultivate community champions and advocates
- Drive user-generated content and testimonials
- Develop and execute community activation campaigns
2. Content Creation & Distribution
- Create 5-10 pieces of social content per week (video, graphics, written)
- Film and edit short-form videos for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube
- Design social graphics using Canva for community channels
- Write compelling copy for social posts, emails, announcements
- Capture and amplify user success stories
- Coordinate content calendar across multiple properties
3. Growth & Metrics
- Track community health metrics (engagement, retention, referrals)
- Optimize conversion funnels from community to active users
- Test content formats and messaging strategies
- Report on community impact and growth opportunities
- Identify and scale successful engagement tactics
Secondary Responsibilities (20% of time):
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with product, sales, and operations teams
- Partnership Support: Create content for strategic partnerships and distribution channels
- User Research: Gather community feedback to inform product development
- Analytics: Track engagement metrics and provide insights
Additional Responsibilities (10% of time):
- Community Strategy: Develop long-term community engagement roadmap
- Advocacy Programs: Build ambassador and referral programs
- Event Coordination: Support online and offline community events
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must-Have:
- 2-3+ yearsĀ of community management or social media management experience
- Proven content creation skills: Video (phone + editing apps), graphics (Canva), copywriting
- Experience building engaged communitiesĀ from early stage with measurable growth
- Portfolio-thinking mindset: Comfortable managing multiple communities and prioritizing based on traction
- Data-driven approach: Track what works and optimize based on metrics
- Self-starter mentality: Can build strategy and execute with minimal oversight
- Excellent communication skills: Written, verbal, empathetic listening
- Alignment with Islamic valuesĀ and understanding of Muslim market sensitivities
- Remote work experience: Proven ability to work independently and asynchronously
Preferred:
- Experience with Muslim/halal businesses or Islamic organizations
- Previous work with professional networks, marketplaces, or multi-sided platforms
- TikTok/Instagram growth expertise with organic reach strategies
- Experience reactivating dormant user bases
- Understanding of mosque dynamics and Islamic community leadership
- Copywriting or content marketing background
- Experience with community platforms (Discord, Slack, forum software)
- Network within Muslim business or tech community
SUCCESS METRICS
30 Days:
- Complete deep dive into UMG products and existing user communities
- Audit current community efforts and identify quick wins
- Develop 90-day community activation plan
- Launch first content campaigns across priority products
- Establish community metrics and reporting
90 Days:
- Build engaged communities around 2-3 priority products
- Publish 40+ pieces of content driving user engagement
- Achieve measurable increases in user activity and retention
- Launch user testimonial and advocacy programs
- Drive referral loops and organic growth
6 Months:
- Establish thriving communities with active daily engagement
- Generate consistent user-generated content and testimonials
- Achieve 3x increase in community-driven user acquisition
- Build repeatable community engagement systems
- Scale successful tactics across additional products
12 Months:
- Manage portfolio of engaged communities driving sustainable growth
- Build or manage junior community team members
- Establish UMG as recognized community-first brand in Muslim tech
- Drive measurable revenue impact through community-led growth
- Create playbooks and systems for ongoing community management

Compensation Philosophy
Weāre building something meaningful and want partners who believe in the mission. The monthly compensation for this position will be set upon mutual discussions.
