Job Description
Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center, a leading (Islamic Institution with different community centers across Northern Virginia area), is seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to lead and oversee the operations, programs, facilities, and strategic growth of the main campus and its affiliated properties.

Founded in 1983, Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center serves one of the largest and most diverse Muslim communities in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Our Institution is dedicated to spiritual enrichment, community development, education, and civic engagement. With a wide array of services, from youth programming to social services, Dar Al-Hijrah continues to be a hub of Islamic learning and community support.
Position Overview:
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center and reports directly to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director holds overall operational and administrative responsibility for the main campus in Falls Church and all affiliated campuses and properties operating under the Dar Al-Hijrah umbrella. This includes overseeing daily operations, leading staff, executing strategic initiatives, fostering interfaith and civic relationships, managing budgets and fundraising efforts, and ensuring the effective and mission-driven operation of all properties and departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Supervision: Lead and supervise all departments and staff of Dar Al-Hijrah and its facilities to ensure high performance and mission alignment.
- Strategic Vision & Implementation: Collaborate with the Imam and leadership team to implement the Center’s strategic vision, programs, and long-term goals.
- Financial Management: Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, and ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency.
- Board Relations & Governance: Support the Board of Directors by implementing board policies, facilitating communication, and ensuring good governance practices.
- Human Resources & Talent Development: Oversee recruitment, professional development, and performance of staff while promoting an ethical and productive work environment.
- Community Engagement & Fundraising: Lead efforts in community outreach, donor relations, and fundraising campaigns to support programs and capital projects.
- Facilities & Operations: Oversee the effective management of all facilities, including maintenance, safety compliance, and capital improvement projects.
- Risk Management & Legal Compliance: Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Communication & Coordination: Foster strong internal communication and collaboration across departments, and maintain effective relationships with partners and stakeholders.
- Culture & Ethics: Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, collaboration, and adherence to Islamic values and ethics in all aspects of the Center’s work.
- Visionary Leadership: Provide forward-thinking leadership that anticipates the evolving needs of the Muslim community and ensures the Center’s continued relevance and impact.
Qualifications:
- Proven leadership and management experience in nonprofit, religious, or community-based organizations.
- Strong understanding of Islamic principles, community needs, and cultural sensitivities.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and team development.
- Familiarity with facilities management and construction oversight.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in nonprofit management, Islamic studies, public administration, or a related field is a plus.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience serving as an Executive Director or in a senior leadership role with equivalent responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with Muslim communities in North America.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.
- Strong fundraising and grant management background.
