Job Description
Roots Academy, a registered charity dedicated to foundational Islamic education for young Muslims, is seeking a volunteer Graphic Designer to support its Canadian operations.
About the Role
You will create and manage visual content that supports Roots Academy's educational programs, community outreach, and social media presence across Canada. This hybrid position, based in Ontario, offers the opportunity to contribute meaningful design work to a growing Islamic education initiative while working alongside a dedicated team of volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design graphics for social media, email campaigns, web pages, presentations, and print materials
- Maintain visual consistency with Roots Academy's brand guidelines and Islamic values across all materials
- Collaborate with social media and education teams to translate their ideas and scripts into compelling visual assets
- Create promotional materials including posters, event collateral, and program launch kits
- Develop reusable, easy-to-edit design templates in Canva, Google Slides, or similar tools for team-wide use
- Revise and iterate on designs based on constructive feedback
- Stay informed on current design trends in faith-based and youth-focused contexts
- Organize and manage design files to ensure efficient workflow and on-time delivery
Requirements
- Strong design portfolio demonstrating creativity, clarity, and brand alignment
- Proficiency with Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma, or comparable design tools
- Strong skills in layout, typography, and visual hierarchy
- Ability to follow creative direction while contributing your own ideas
- Understanding of Islamic values and the principle of visual modesty in design
- Experience designing for social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok preferred)
- Excellent communication and time-management skills
No specific years of experience or formal education level required; capability and passion matter most.
