Job Description

This is a senior leadership role heading Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad's Group Statutory Reporting and Policy function, positioned as the central technical accounting authority for the entire bank group and primary liaison with external auditors and Bank Negara Malaysia (Malaysia's central bank).

Key Responsibilities

Group Financial Reporting & Consolidation

  • Lead the statutory reporting and consolidation framework across the group
  • Ensure timely and accurate issuance of consolidated financial statements
  • Oversee consolidation of subsidiaries with robust integrity controls and governance
  • Review subsidiary financial information for compliance and accuracy
  • Continuously identify and implement process improvements to reporting frameworks and governance standards

Accounting Policy & Reporting Governance

  • Maintain and oversee the Group Accounting Policy Framework
  • Assess and implement new accounting standards (MFRS/IFRS) as they are issued
  • Establish the group's accounting position for significant or complex transactions
  • Develop technical papers and practical guidance notes to ensure consistent policy application across all entities
  • Promote and enforce consistent accounting policy application group-wide

Technical Accounting Leadership

  • Provide authoritative technical accounting advice to management and board committees
  • Guide on complex accounting treatment and disclosure matters
  • Assess financial reporting implications of new products, services, and strategic initiatives
  • Advise the Board and governance committees on material accounting and reporting matters

External Audit Management

  • Serve as the primary liaison with the group's external auditors
  • Lead audit planning, coordination, and management throughout the annual audit cycle
  • Manage discussions and resolve key accounting judgements, estimates, and audit issues

Regulatory & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the group's primary liaison with Bank Negara Malaysia on financial reporting matters
  • Lead regulatory engagement and advise on implications of regulatory changes
  • Represent the group in relevant industry and policy forums

Leadership & Team Building

  • Partner strategically with the Group Financial Controller
  • Collaborate across Finance, Risk, and Compliance functions
  • Support the Board and senior management
  • Build and develop a high-performing reporting team

This role requires deep expertise in statutory reporting, MFRS/IFRS accounting standards, and Islamic banking regulatory frameworks.
