Muslim Chaplain – Permanent Full-Time Government Position

**Overview:**

Under the supervision of the Community Resources Manager, provide spiritual and moral guidance to incarcerated Muslims at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad, Monterey County, California. This is a specialized Islamic ministry role serving the Muslim population within the state correctional system.

**Key Responsibilities:**

• Conduct Islamic religious services including Jumah (Friday) prayers, Eid celebrations, and Ramadan observances
• Provide spiritual, moral, and personal counseling to incarcerated Muslims on issues related to faith, incarceration, and reintegration
• Organize and instruct Islamic religion and ethics classes for incarcerated persons
• Interview incarcerated individuals and counsel on ethnic, spiritual, and personal matters
• Counsel families regarding concerns and problems related to incarceration
• Presides over Islamic religious observances and celebrations throughout the year
• Supervise programs conducted by visiting religious and community groups
• Assist incarcerated persons with welfare agency matters and family support coordination
• Visit and provide pastoral care to the sick and vulnerable within the facility
• Participate in group and club activities with residents
• Explain and interpret the institution's religious program to community groups
• Serve as a member or consultant to the institution's Classification Committee
• Cooperate with staff in carrying out the institution's treatment programs

**Requirements & Qualifications:**

• Must pass the Muslim Chaplain examination (required before application submission)
• Must meet minimum requirements outlined in the Muslim Chaplain classification specification
• Valid email address required for ongoing communication
• Desirable: demonstrated commitment to promoting an inclusive workplace that empowers employees from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
