Operating Theatre Assistant

Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), Brunei's leading private hospital owned by Darussalam Assets (the sovereign investment arm of the Brunei Islamic Monarchy government), seeks an Operating Theatre Assistant to support its neurosurgery department.

Pre-operative Responsibilities

• Verify functionality of all surgical equipment (operating microscopes, power drills, cautery machines, anaesthesia machines, suction devices, and imaging equipment including Zeego and C-Arm fluoroscopy units)
• Enforce radiation safety protocols, ensuring lead aprons, shields, and dosimeters are properly in place
• Maintain theatre environmental controls (temperature, humidity, air pressure)
• Prepare sterile instruments and supplies according to the surgical schedule
• Assist the clinical team with patient positioning and draping

Intra-operative Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor theatre equipment throughout surgical procedures
• Hand instruments and supplies to the surgical team as requested
• Anticipate team needs to maintain efficient workflow
• Maintain strict sterile field discipline and infection control standards

Post-operative Responsibilities

• Decontaminate and store instruments correctly
• Reset the theatre for the next case
• Assist with patient transfer to the recovery area
• Safely dispose of biomedical and radiological waste
• Maintain accurate theatre logs and equipment maintenance records

Requirements

Diploma in a Science subject or related field. Ideal candidates will demonstrate thorough knowledge of surgical instruments and sterile techniques, clear understanding of infection control and patient safety principles, the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure, strong communication skills for working within a multidisciplinary surgical team, and basic troubleshooting competency for medical equipment.
