Job Description
KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher or Research Scientist to develop AI-powered analytics for monitoring solar panel and battery system performance using computer vision and infrared imaging.
Role Overview
You will design and implement advanced computer vision and deep learning algorithms for real-time anomaly detection and performance monitoring in renewable energy systems. This is a research-focused position combining theoretical innovation with practical deployment, based at KAUST's campus in Thuwal on the Red Sea coast.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop computer vision pipelines and deep learning models for infrared image analysis of solar and battery systems
- Build data fusion and image processing workflows for handling multi-modal scientific imaging data
- Create scalable real-time inference systems suitable for operational deployment
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams (materials science, device engineering, energy systems)
- Publish peer-reviewed research outcomes
- Mentor and supervise graduate students
Requirements
- PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related discipline (Postdoctoral track) OR MSc/PhD (Research Scientist track)
- Strong expertise in computer vision and image processing
- Hands-on experience with PyTorch and/or TensorFlow
- Proficient Python programming and machine learning libraries
- Ability to develop production-ready, deployable models (not just prototypes)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with scientific imaging or multimodal sensor fusion
- Background in real-time systems or embedded AI
- Familiarity with defect detection, condition monitoring, or predictive maintenance
