Job Description
Wahed is seeking a React Native Engineer to build and maintain mobile applications on iOS and Android. This is a full-time remote role based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, supporting Wahed's mission to provide Sharia-compliant investment and financial services to Muslims globally.
Role Overview
As a React Native Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain Wahed's mobile applications across iOS and Android platforms. You'll work within an Agile team environment, collaborating with product managers, backend engineers, and other developers to deliver high-quality mobile experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop polished user interfaces for both iOS and Android that provide consistent, high-quality user experiences
- Build new mobile features with reliability across all supported app versions
- Integrate native device APIs for deep platform integration where needed
- Identify, debug, and resolve performance issues and bugs proactively
- Write well-tested, well-documented code with solid automated test coverage
- Lead the migration of existing features to React Native while maintaining full functionality
- Work effectively in Agile sprint teams and independently on assigned tasks
- Partner closely with backend development teams to define API specifications and requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of commercial experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, ES6+, and React Native
- Solid understanding of both object-oriented and functional programming paradigms
- Proficiency with third-party React and React Native packages, including dependency management
- Ability to write clean, readable, and well-documented code
- Strong debugging skills for mobile compatibility and dependency issues
- Hands-on experience with XCode, Gradle, and Android Studio
- Clear understanding of REST API design, request/response models, and offline storage patterns
- Experience with mobile testing frameworks such as Detox or Jest
- Git proficiency and solid repository management
- Commitment to continuously learning new mobile engineering practices
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with Swift, Objective-C, or Java
- Knowledge of Apple Developer and App Store Connect standards
- Prior experience publishing apps to Google Play or the Apple App Store
