Retail Butcher (Halal Meats)

Iqbal Foods, Canada's premier halal supermarket chain serving the South Asian, Middle Eastern, and broader Muslim community across the Greater Toronto Area, is hiring a Retail Butcher for their flagship East York location on Thorncliffe Park Drive. This is a permanent full-time role.

You will work directly at the halal meat counter, taking primary responsibility for processing and presenting halal-certified meats for retail sale. Your key responsibilities include:

• Cleaning and preparing raw meats for processing
• Cutting, trimming, and preparing standard and specialty cuts
• De-boning beef, lamb, poultry, and other meat varieties
• Operating grinding and slicing equipment for specialty preparations
• Preparing specialty sausages and other processed meat products
• Fulfilling custom cut orders to customer specifications
• Weighing and packaging meats for retail display and sale
• Maintaining strict compliance with government food safety regulations, company hygiene standards, and halal handling protocols, including rigorous cross-contamination prevention

Iqbal Foods' store features tropical fruits and vegetables, halal-certified meats, imported dry goods, bulk spices and nuts, and is a cornerstone halal food destination for the Muslim community in East York.

Requirements

• 2 to less than 3 years of meat processing experience (butcher, meat cutter, or trimmer roles)
• Secondary school education minimum
• English language proficiency
• Knowledge of halal cutting methods (preferred)
• Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or valid work permit

Compensation & Schedule

Salary is $56,200 annually for 30 hours per week. Shifts are flexible and rotate across mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Vacation pay is 4%.
