Job Description
Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, part of Qatar Foundation, is seeking a Research Scientist to advance regional climate research capabilities. The role supports Qatar's National Vision 2030 strategy and the country's climate adaptation across the Middle East and North Africa region.
Role Overview
You will develop and optimise regional climate model simulations using frameworks such as the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, assessing impacts of projected climate changes on Qatar's urban infrastructure, energy systems, and water resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and continuously optimise regional climate model simulations
- Conduct impact assessments of climate projections on critical infrastructure (urban planning, energy, water)
- Translate research findings into evidence-based adaptation strategies
- Communicate complex climate science results to government stakeholders and industry partners
- Collaborate within interdisciplinary research teams on climate resilience and water-energy-environment nexus projects
- Publish peer-reviewed research and present findings at international conferences
- Secure competitive research funding and lead grant applications
- Mentor postgraduate students and early-career researchers
Required Qualifications
- PhD in climate science, atmospheric science, engineering, or related field
- Minimum 3 years post-doctoral or industry experience in regional climate modelling
- Strong expertise in regional climate modelling with demonstrated track record
- Knowledge of bias correction techniques for climate simulation outputs
- Programming proficiency in Python, R, MATLAB, or NCL
- Hands-on experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments
- Established peer-reviewed publication record
- Excellent science communication skills for diverse audiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior research in arid or extreme climatic environments
- Involvement in policy development processes
- Experience managing research project budgets and timelines
