Job Description
Part-time remote video editor position with Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research, a nonprofit organization pioneering Islamic research and content in creative formats. The role is to transform raw footage into polished, engaging content optimized for digital platforms while maintaining consistent visual style, pacing, and storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit long-form episodes, short-form micro-content, and social media assets according to creative direction and deadlines
- Add motion graphics, captions, and lower thirds; optimize audio levels, color grading, and transitions to professional standards
- Manage project files, version control, and asset organization for efficient team handoffs
- Collaborate with producers, designers, and other editors to incorporate feedback and maintain brand alignment
- Stay updated on editing trends and best practices for YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok
- Ensure all deliverables meet technical specifications and platform requirements for distribution
- Suggest creative improvements to enhance storytelling and viewer engagement
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience editing professional video content with a portfolio or reel required
- Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro (or similar NLE), basic After Effects, and audio editing tools
- Strong sense of pacing, rhythm, and visual storytelling
- Familiarity with aspect ratios and formats for YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok platforms
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
- Ability to accept feedback constructively and work efficiently under tight deadlines
Application Process
Candidates submit a 1–2 minute video reel of best editing work and one of two editing samples: (1) a before-and-after edit with 100–150 word explanation of decisions and workflow, or (2) a re-edited 30–60 second segment of any existing Yaqeen Institute video in the applicant's own style with a short explanatory note including the original video link. An optional note on an editing trend or technique of interest is welcome.
