Job Description
Safeena is the UK's leading Muslim Cancer Support Network, dedicated to ensuring Muslims facing cancer receive compassionate, culturally-informed support. They are recruiting a Volunteer Manager to establish and lead a professionally-managed national volunteer programme during their transition to formal charity governance.
In this role, you will oversee all volunteer operations across multiple functions: Befrienders (patient companions), Community Champions, Bereavement Volunteers, and operational staff. You will be responsible for:
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Recruit, onboard, and train volunteers from diverse backgrounds and experience levels
- Design and deliver comprehensive induction, ongoing training, and refresher programmes
- Provide regular supervision, wellbeing support, and reflective practice sessions for volunteers in emotionally sensitive roles
- Manage volunteer scheduling, assignments, and community outreach coordination
- Maintain volunteer records, policies, safeguarding documentation, and regulatory compliance
- Promote volunteer opportunities across mosques and Muslim community networks
- Support volunteer wellbeing and prevent burnout in this demanding sector
**Required Qualifications:**
- Proven volunteer management or volunteer coordination experience
- Strong organisational, administrative, and written/verbal communication skills
- Capacity to provide emotional and practical support to volunteers in sensitive caregiving roles
- Working knowledge of safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection protocols
- Ability to deliver training or facilitate group sessions
**Desirable Qualifications:**
- Experience in the charity, community, health, or social care sectors
- Understanding of Muslim communities and culturally-sensitive best practice
- Training or certification in safeguarding, bereavement support, or cancer awareness
**Position Details:**
Full-time, fixed-term contract for 2 years. Remote role based in UK. Salary: £36,000 per annum. Application closing date: 25 September 2026.
