Supervising Attorney

CAIR-NY (Council on American-Islamic Relations, New York) is hiring a full-time Supervising Attorney to lead its civil rights legal practice in New York City with hybrid flexibility (in-office and remote work available).

Role Overview

You will oversee CAIR-NY's civil rights legal practice, managing a team-based approach to protecting the rights of Muslims in New York. The practice covers hate crimes, discrimination claims, and First Amendment advocacy. As the supervising attorney, you'll manage the organization's legal strategy, case selection, and team supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct the civil rights practice and manage the legal intake and case selection process
• Supervise attorneys, paralegals, and interns
• Represent clients in state and federal litigation and administrative hearings
• Lead Know Your Rights educational outreach in the community
• Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholder organizations, and allied legal professionals across New York

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State bar license
• Minimum 5 years of civil rights advocacy and/or litigation experience
• Demonstrated commitment to CAIR-NY's mission of protecting Muslim civil rights in New York
• Proven supervisory skills, strong communication ability, and collaborative working style in a public-interest environment

Compensation & Benefits

Annual salary $90,000–$105,000 based on experience. Benefits include 10 vacation days, 8 sick days, health insurance reimbursement, 401(k) plan, bar fee reimbursement, malpractice insurance, and professional development resources. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
