CAIR's National Civil Rights department is seeking a full-time Trial Attorney to serve as lead litigation counsel for civil rights cases affecting American Muslim communities across the nation.
Core Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough factual investigations and case development
- Manage all phases of civil litigation, from discovery to trial and appeal
- Serve and respond to written discovery requests
- Take and defend depositions
- Handle appellate litigation
- Negotiate settlements
- Work with expert witnesses and coordinate expert testimony
- Deliver public speaking engagements on civil rights topics
- Provide staff training and legal guidance
- Participate in continuing legal education and professional development
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school
- Active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction
- Deep expertise in civil rights law
- Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Clean disciplinary record
- Understanding of and commitment to addressing civil rights issues facing American Muslims
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum three years of civil litigation experience
- Appellate practice experience
Compensation & Benefits
Annual salary: $95,000 (non-negotiable)
Work schedule: 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. ET
Remote position with approximately one trip per month for national travel
